Lab Online is our state-of-the-art suite of applications for web-based laboratory interaction and information management. It includes Lab Online Orders for order entry, Lab Online Filler for assignment of results and Lab Online Results for results distribution.

Each component shares the same common framework, limiting the overall footprint significantly. Through maximal use of open standards, modules communicate as easily with third-party products as they do among themselves.

HIS and LIS communication runs via fast background processes. Dozens of messages can be processed per second. Users can easily access many years of patient history.

Lab Online Orders is a web-based server for integrated ordering of tests with one or more laboratories. Typical users are physicians or other care providers in hospitals, and customers-physicians in case of private laboratories.

The ordering screen is fully configurable with any number of request forms, and can dynamically visualize the assignment of tests to labs and samples in a tree structure. Lab Online Orders applies redundancy- and other checks and, depending on tests ordered, automatically prompts the user for missing request- or patient-scoped information.

Orders can be activated either immediately or at some future time. When activating orders, Lab Online Orders determines sample requirements considering the then-available laboratory services, and generates barcode labels as necessary. Phlebotomy lists can be generated to organize any sampling rounds, and can be summoned on screen later for sample login.

Users can remain ignorant about which labs will execute their requested tests, as Lab Online Orders communicates behind the scene with the respective LIS systems.

Lab Online Results is our solution for distributing laboratory results to physicians. The product collects results from your laboratory information system, accumulates them in its own database and makes them available through various reports.

Features include:

  • HL7 messaging following IHE guidelines
  • Consolidation of messages from different contributing fillers
  • Storage of originally transmitted reference values and unit per result
  • Access to own orders, group orders and explicitly unlocked orders
  • Users define their own sets of favorite search criteria
  • Search by test with immediate result display in list of matching orders
  • Highlighting of orders with new or modified results
  • Reports in choice of language, layout and color scheme
  • Cumulative reports with up to 10 columns of historical results
  • Display of composite results of arbitrary complexity
  • Partial reports and display of result status
  • Display of comments and attachments
  • Hyperlinks to external pages per test
  • Export to PDF for local storage or printing
  • Selection of one or more tests for graphical overview of full history
  • All report viewing traceable

Lab Online works well with open source databases and application containers. Today's open source technology is more than capable to challenge traditional solutions relying on commercial third party software. It is, by nature, more standards-compliant and often technically superior. Open source implies that customers don't have to pay for third party licenses and can select a support service level matching their requirements.

For customers already using a commercial platform for other applications, Lab Online can be set up to work with any major database and Java Enterprise application container.

Lab Online incorporates our proprietary ShapeShifter framework, named after its ability to dynamically adapt to changing business requirements. A complete application model describing data and behavior is stored in the database and can be edited by privileged users as requirements evolve. Both the database structure and the user interface then follow this model to automatically support the new requirements. Because these changes are dynamic, no additional code is required and the overall application footprint is kept small.
